Get Him Eat Him: "Exposure"
genre: indie rock
Not quite the delicate un-rough GHEH teased at with Geography Cones' closer "Early Scarlet Globes," but "Exposure" sees the band deliberately taking a dose of ritalin and sawing down the edges. There's not so much herky-jerk as undulation, and the serpentine guitar lines still coil, albeit with less venom. Funny thing is, strip away all the indie earmarks and mad scientist arrangements and you're left with a Gin Blossoms track-- no joke. By no means a bad thing, just the way Matt LeMay's voice registers. The writerly lyrics stay smart-alecky enough to ward off any "Hey Jealousy" sentiments, and you gotta love the grandiose Weezer-style intro in a song indirectly rejecting Rivers Cuomo's heart-on-sleeveness.
remember when i had a crush on matt lemay in seventh grade?
